Awotunde is a visual art and communication practitioner. His initial art and design apprenticeship training was under Shamseen Adagunduro and Olusesan Adebayo in Lagos before he proceeded to academically train at The Polytechnic Ibadan, Ara Studio under the versatile Mufu Onifade and Auchi School of Art in Nigeria. Awotunde has pursued further study and training in the United Kingdom before returning to Nigeria in late 2016 to continue his practice. In his most recent series, Awotunde explores the topic of migration from a personal perspective. In his pieces, he reflects on some of the differences – both perceived and real – between his home and temporary abode. The artist uses abstract representations to express his thoughts; thoughts that are reflected in the world’s response to the global immigration crisis.
